College Project 02

For this project we were given 5 random words/phrases which we had to incorporate into 5 seperate images. My words were:
Idea 01 - Original artwork using Adobe Photoshop
Idea 01 - Original Images
Idea 01 - Front, spine and back cover design

I based this design on the Penguin Classics range of books.
They often use unedited or cropped paintings for their cover art and I felt this suited my original artwork.
Idea 01 - 3D book mock-up and 'Pelham Classics' logo
Idea 02 - Original artwork made with Adobe Illustrator

To make this vector image I traced photos of the Nile shoreline and a bird in flight.
I then added the sunset and the river's reflection using radial gradients.
Idea 02 - Front, spine and back cover design

I really liked the original image and didn't want to crowd the front cover with unnecessary text. I also thought it was similar to the kind of image Paulo Coehlo might choose for one of his books. I decided to base the cover design on books of that genre, where the authors name is almost more important than the title.
Idea 02 - 3D mock-up
Idea 03 - Original artwork made using Adobe Illustrator

I started tracing a picture of a Blackcap and liked it so much I decided to give him pride of place on my cover design.
Idea 03 - Front, spine and back cover design

After designing the front cover, I thought the bold design would look good as a hardback book.
I deliberately made it with a wider spine. The dimensions are 6" x 2" x 9".
Idea 03 - Stephen Fry contemplates how the audio book might read:

"Papa-ooma-mow-mow, papa-ooma-mow-mow
Ooma-mow-mow, papa-ooma-mow."
Idea 03 - 3D mock-up

I wanted to make this design into the dust jacket of a hardback book so experimented with making the spine curved.
Idea 04 - Vector image of Mozart with related elements representing the other words and phrases
